1960 Fender Telecaster – Slab Board – “Fullerton” Red
Beautifully restored 1960 Fender Telecaster with a slab-board rosewood neck.
The body, neck, neck plate, bridge, pots, bridge pickup, tuners, and frets are original. The neck pickup is an undated 1960s black-bottom Fender pickup. The bridge pickup came from another 1960 Telecaster and is correct for this guitar and year. The pickguard is an aged reproduction.
The guitar has been beautifully refinished in “Fullerton” Red by Joe Riggio. I chose this color to replicate an original example in the same shade currently offered by Carter Vintage Guitars, which they describe as DuPont Red. Joe believes the actual color to be Huntsman Red from the 1956 Lincoln DuPont color chart, a shade that collectors have come to call “Fullerton Red.” Joe gave the finish a tasteful, light relic treatment that looks fantastic.
The guitar has been professionally set up and plays and sounds great. Both pickups sound excellent. The stock switch is included, but when I put it in the bridge position, I’m getting the bridge and the neck together. I’ve installed a modern switch so you get the modern tonal options In the three positions. I think some diagnostic work could fix the original switch. Also the Jack cup is loose. You have to hold it in place when pulling the cord out.
At some point in its history, the body had a narrow channel routed beneath the pickguard, likely to accommodate a switch or similar modification. The route has been professionally filled and is completely invisible with the guard installed.

A fantastic-looking and playing pre-CBS 1960 Telecaster with a substantial complement of original parts, an excellent slab-board neck, and a beautifully executed Riggio refinish.
