Up for sale is this matched set of PAF-spec patent number sticker pickups, as used by Gibson circa 1962–1964.

The "patent applied for" pickup went through a few minor changes after its initial introduction. In 1957, they first appeared with steel parts and no stickers. Shortly after, the "long magnet" version appeared with nickel covers and "PATENT APPLIED FOR" stickers. In the early 1960s, the "short magnet" version was introduced, named for the slightly shorter magnet used inside the pickup.

Around 1962, Gibson switched from the "patent applied for" sticker to the "patent number" sticker.

Until 1965, these still used nickel covers. They also had "purple" or "maroon" coil wire and "double black" leads.

These pickups are the PAF-spec, nickel-covered, patent number sticker versions used in the early '60s.

They are exactly the same as the "short magnet" PAFs, except for the sticker.

This particular set is still sealed with factory solder. They also include the original “M-69” pickup rings.

Both pickups have full-length leads and are still attached to the original wiring harness.

This set came out of a jazz box guitar. That means the bridge pickup is standard spacing on the pole pieces, but the neck pickup is narrower and more closely spaced. This actually improves sound and tone, as the strings align more closely with the pole pieces in that position.

The pickups will be removed from the wiring harness when they are sold.
