1958 Gibson J-50. Very clean. One of the cosmetically finest Gibson acoustics I’ve come across. Not utterly flawless but as nice as you’ll find. Definitely in the “closet queen” category.

Sonically it matches well with its stellar cosmetic condition. It has a deep, resonant tone. It’s not overly boomy with a balanced, full tone. It has that “chunky“ sounding attack that these old Gibson‘s are known for.See the video demo for the sounds.
Minimal work was done to this guy when I brought it in. The bridge was reglued. The saddle had already been lowered to facilitate better action. We dropped it just a tad more but not much. The action is pretty good for the age of the guitar. It has not had a neck reset. It is eminently playable as is, but is one of those “borderline” neck reset guitars. It works fine as is, but needs a neck reset to be made perfect. I figured that the next owner can make that decision and use the luthier of their choice. A couple braces were slightly loose, and these were reglued. For some reason, a very small brace was added under the top at some point, but this was easily removed.
The guard was peeling up tad so we opted to remove and reglue it. these shrink overtime and pull at the wood, which can sometimes leave cracks along the edges of the guard. This will prevent that in the future.
Original frets with almost no wear. Sounds lovely as you would expect. Nice medium chunky neck profile… Like you’d find on a reissue 58 from the Gibson custom shop.
Comes in the original alligator chip board case. Will be packed carefully. If you’d like it shipped in a modern hard case, I can arrange that at extra cost. The cost will count for the extra case and the extra shipping. The sign is not included and is not for sale.
