The good here is that this guitar sounds glorious. It has that nice, open, big Gibson sound you would expect from a 1950s dreadnought. It’s currently had all the needed work done including a refret. It sounds and plays great.
However, this is clearly a player grade guitar. It was in disrepair and has had lots of work done to get it back in playing shape.. The good news is that it is done :-). You won’t need to do further work to get it into playing shape. It looks like at some point the guitar had a neck reset, and a new bridge installed. The bridge is a good bit bigger than the original, but not quite to the point of being clowinshly oversized. During these years, they were still using the tear drop style pick guard. That has been replaced on this guitar. The Brazilian Rosewood fret board looks lovely and has been regretted. There are some crack repairs on the top of the guitar. The guitar also had a heel repair. This may have happened when the neck was reset. The tuners have been changed. Thankfully, there are no headstock breaks 😁. The guitar was oversprayed. Some “filler” was used in some areas with heavy pick wear (clearly visible in the photos). It looks like the whole back may have been replaced, but I am not 100% certain. It looks like some braces were reglued as well. The truss rod cover is a homemade replacement. So clearly not for the collector who wants a pristinely original instrument. But if you don’t care about how it looks and want that classic Gibson sound, this very well could be the guitar for you.
The guitar has a nick chunky neck which fits very nicely in the hand.
The guitar has great sustain and a nice ring to it.
