One of the most unique guitars I have had in here. This is a 1952 Gibson Les Paul with factory added burst (1958-1959) era appointments. Sometime in 59-60 it was sent back to Gibson for a new finish in all gold (front and back!). The Gold color is the later version in use at the end of the decade. It also received at least new fretboard with fatter burst era frets. It is possible that it was renecked, but it does have the earlier style tenon and truss rod cutout placememt. It also got the then current double ring, single line Kluson tuners and a white switch ring—yes, that is a burst era switch ring! The headstock veneer was also so replaced and everything updated with burst era placement for the logo, Les Paul logo, and truss rod bell cover. To top it off, they put it in a 5-latch Lifton case that is still in superb condition! The case alone is worth a chunk of change given the condition.
It is well documented that Gibson performed this kind of factory servicing work and the evidence clearly points to this instrument receiving it circa 1959–1960.
1952 Les Pauls have been highly underrated due to the odd-looking trapeze tailpiece. While it does make palm-muting a challenge this problem can be resolved with drop in replacement bridges from Mojoaxe or music city bridge. This particular example is fairly lightweight and the P-90 pick ups have a very strong sound and killer sustain. It plays great and will make you smile minute you strum a chord.
I am sure folks will have plenty of questions and would like to see more. Please just message me and I will give you what you need.
I will pack this with exceptional care. I will overnight it.
