Up for sale is this killer 1983 Fender Stratocaster 62 reissue. This is one of the coveted “Fullerton era“ issues. These have really gone up in value the past decade.  Their introduction represents a return to Fender’s glory days after the “dark ages“ of the 1970s when the Stratocaster went through a number of changes.  Starting in 1982 they released two versions. One was based on a 1957 Stratocaster with a maple neck, and the more popular ‘62 reissue with a rosewood neck. The standard finish was Sunburst, but like the originals they offered an array of custom colors.

This one features a custom color candy apple red finish. You can clearly see the gold undercoat characteristic of this finish through the heavy wear on the instrument. This was somebody’s everyday player which gives it a natural relic like the old ones. Keep in mind that when these were released a real ‘62 reissue was only 20 years old. This issue is now 40 years old. Crazy how fast time flies!

This one has the medium slim neck typical of these reissues. Measures .800 inches just behind the first fret and .825 inches just behind the fifth fret. It increases gradually from there.

All the parts and pieces on the guitar are original.  It does have heavy wear to the finish. They’re also also a good amount of fret wear. I think it still has nice playability. You could try to level out the frets or do a refret. If you would like me to have the refret done for you, I can work that into the deal. You will need to allow about one extra week for the work to get done. Just message me and I’ll give you a more specific timeframe.

The guitar has a 9-22-83 neck date.  The pots are also from the later part of 1982. All the parts and pieces look original although the it looks like there is an added ground wire to the Jack. Everything else looks straight (see photos).  Other than where the added ground wire was hooked up, all the solder looks untouched. I have more photos if you need them.

It comes out in the original Fullerton case with the “duck foot“ leather tab. The case is in decent cosmetic condition. However, when you open it, the whole case lays flat on the ground. In other words, the top does not hold open at a right angle.

The finish on the guitar is original, but has heavy wear. You can see layers of gold undercoat in places.  There may be a small amount of touch up in a couple places, namely, on the edge and the one spot in the forearm area. I’m not sure if this is just another layer of red or an extra dab of something. It flakes right off if you want to remove it.

Comes with the original Fullerton vintage series instruction/owners manual.
