For sale is this killer 1976 Fender Starcaster. This one comes in a rarer “custom color” black finish. Not a lot of these out there in this shade.

I know opinions are divided on this point, but I think this guitar wins the award for coolest headstock ever!

These guitars were essentially an attempt by Fender to give an alternative to Gibson’s ES-335. So it has a sem-hollow body like its competitor, but a bolt on neck typical of Fender’s standard design. It features a pair of “wide range” humbucker pickups which really sounds great, and have only grown in popularity over the years.

The guitar have its original parts and finish. condition wise this guitar is a perfect example of what can be described as “very good” vintage condition. The reverb condition guide describes it thus way: “Very Good describes items with more cosmetic imperfections than Excellent, but are still in great condition overall. There may be some scratches, finish dings or buckle rash, but nothing that affects the playability or function of the gear.” The guitar is in good shape for its age, but has marks and wear from normally use. Black is a tough color to photograph. From a distance, it looks one-way (almost mint!), but then close-up you can see every last bit of dust particle that looks like a ding!  It’s not a mint guitar but not an eyesore either.  Definitely in the “very good” category as outlined above.

Note that there is a small hole on the lower horn where the strap button was installed at one time. Someone may have briefly tried to play this lefty, but made no other modifications. The factory master volume knob is a little loose on its own, so I wrapped some tape around the shaft to hold it steady.

Guitar come housed in its original case. It has a slight nicotine smell, but not too bad.

I restrung it with a new set of strings, and gave it a basic set up to my liking. You may wish to have this set up to your personal preferences. There is some modest fret wear on the guitar, but there is plenty of height if you wish to level it out. I do not believe it’s necessary to do that at this time. I will ship this worldwide, but will not falsify customs forms.
